Huntmaster,
I bet you'll have a great time. The anticipation/preparation are alot of the fun. I was about to burst back in 2005 to get into the sheep mountains, but when I hit the last little airstrip, all planes were grounded (it turned out for three days) due to smoke from statewide fires. Stuck on a gravel airstrip for three days was torture.........

Here's what it looks like when you get there:

I am going to Croatia for Mouflon-sheep in september. It is also possible to hunt fallow deer in the area, so I am really looking forward to it. Never been to Croatia before either, so I am also a little excited to hunt in a new country with very different terrain than I am used to. I belive the main problem will be the heat. Southern Europe in september is just as hot as northern Europe/US/Canada in july.

Ok, last minute preparations are underway, tickets, passport, Canadian gun form, gun, ammo, etc. Backpack repacked about 15X, can't sleep worth a hoot, leaving Monday for the NWT. This ought'a be good!

Thanks for the well wishes, talk to ya'll again in about two weeks. Actually, to my wife, I jokingly refer to the trip length as "a little over a week". It wasn't very funny to her when she found out how much I was "rounding off".
Adios,
Don

I will be leaving from Seattle one week from today for my first dall sheep hunt. I booked it 2 years ago, and man has time flied!
I will end up in Healy on the 7th to meet my outfitter who will fly me into base camp on the Wood River in the Alaska Range.
I signed up for his second hunt, but the first spot cam available, so I grabbed it. I don't know if it makes too much difference, but I liked the idea of having the first crack at the rams. I have worked hard to get in shape, and pretty much drove my wife crazy with all the gear I have have bought for this excursion. I am 44, and I look forward to this hunt being more of an adventure then anything else. I plan on taking lots of pictures, and a short video clip of the hunt. I don't post alot on this site, but I have gotten some great advice from you guys who have been there done that. To that, I say a big THANKS!

Best of luck to all you guys this season!

Ran into these guys, as well as several others, while camping along the Idaho/Montana border two weeks ago. Of course, I've never managed to draw a sheep tag, but I do seem to find 'em when I'm out in the hills.

Best of luck on your hunts. I'm only a little jealous!

Regards, Guy

I was up on Pikes Peak yesterday doing the bighorn census for the Division of Wildlife. They have a program where they invite hunters who successfully draw tags to participate in the census count.

Counted 30 yesterday. 8 rams with this group.
