1. They didn't know as much as him. 2. Knew more than him. 3. he lived in Alaska or the poster didn't. 4. The poster liked different guns, calibers or optics than Stick. 5. Was more or less experienced than he was.
From one of the Spring Flings... Strangely enough, all rifles belonging to Sticks buddies, and not an M700 in the bunch. But I'm not surprised at the amount of incorrect info being passed around here, as not a single one of the naysayers have met Stick in person.

I saw him on a flight from Anchorage to Ketchikan last week. He seemed like a regular sort of guy. He was in the window seat just behind the exit row, but I just knew that if anything went wrong, he would save us all. However if the plane were to wreck, I couldn't help but think, as he threw me through the exit window, that he would look me straight in the eye and know that I shoot Nosler partitions and take a brief moment to humiliate me in front of all my fellow passengers. But, I would be alive, and the subject of one of Larry's future cyber vignettes. Ahh sweet mystery of life, at last I've found you. . . . .

And that is the difficult part of relationships on internet forums. You can't know or meet a person like you would in person. You lose voice inflection, facial expression, etc.
People tend to be different (often in a negative way) when anonymous. Even if you put your name off your birth certificate as your handle you are still anonymous. You see the same effect comparing large cities to small towns. People talk about how rude etc people are in a big city. There aren't any consequences for behavior like in a small town where you will see the same person the next day or the next week, or where your reputation will precede you.
Once you get to know most people as a person they really are decent people though there are obvious exceptions to the rule.
The above comments are not reflecting on Stick or other posters specifically merely observations in General.

Then again some folks are a-holes in person. Not directed to anyone in paticular, but when the hat fits...

I for one miss the bastid - considered him an internet friend. No advice he ever gave me was rude or didn't go exactly as he said it would.
Would love to meet him in person - course that means I would be in AK and:

I remember when some guy from Down South had had his rifle lost, stolen, broken or something. Stick loaned a man he had never seen, nor heard of, a rifle to hunt with. Ammo too. Spoke volumes to me. Bob
PS. Tell him I said howdy

What I find hilarious is it wouldn't have mattered a whit whether the guy was a chink, or any other denomination, and yet what a strange, strange trip it's been! (apologies to the GFD)

Maybe he could do a guest appearance? You know, an "Hour with Stick" just to catch up!

It is obviously unfortunate that we Campfire posters did not know Stick in person as our perceptions and opinions of him would almost certainly be different than they currently are. The only Stick most of us knew was the one that seemed to enjoy ripping people on the internet. Expat
