I have a new M70 SS Featherweight 30/06, produced at the end of summer '06. It came equipped with aluminum bottom metal...one piece...button in front of trigger guard. I'm curious who made the bottom metal, or if it was made by Winchester...in-house? And what the aluminum alloy it is? Anyone here know?

Thanks.

Made by one of their vendors in Canada and it's the casted version of 6061-t6.

Floorplate is forged steel by Taurus, then machined in the spring pocket, hinge hole and latch area in-house.

....And in the case of this bottom metal, you are correct.......this is cheap and inferior.
The best alum. alloys would be fine. This construct is virtually architectural grade and is inadequate.
