I work at a major Big Box retailer and can pick up a Kimber Hunter in 30-06 for a decent price after employee discount. I have read some poor QC issues on this forum and others. How bad/good are they?

Mines fine. Buy a couple of mags too.

I do prefer the Montana stock but for the price it is same rifle different stock.

For some reason this forum has bad luck with Kimbers. I do not. I love them I have 3 Montana's and a Hunter. They all shoot great. The Hunter will buck a bit in an 06. I'd love for the mag to hold one more but that's minor.

It's a hellova gun IMO.

I have two, a 6.5 CM and a 7mm-08.
I like them a lot, to the point of seldom using any of my other rifles for big game anymore.

Tzone is right, however..... in 06, that rig is probably going to be a handful.
The stocks do flex some and help with recoil, so there is that.

We’re it up to me, I’d run a 7-08 and not look back.
It’ll kill anything an 06 will and be more civilized to use........IMO.

.223, 257, 308 and 270 Montana’s here. Very fond of them all.

I've shot my son's, and liked it pretty well. Still, if I were in the market, I'd get the Montana since I can afford it. I also like my Howa Alpine better, but those have to be hunted down now. The Hunter magazine is one DM that doesn't annoy me (American models); seems well designed and made.

I have a hunter in 6.5 cm I took on trade. It shoots about 1" on average. Some days a little more, some a little less.

Been working with a mountain ascent in 280 ai. That's been a nightmare so far.

I have a Montana and Adirondack (.243, 6.5). When deer hunting in steep terrain all my other rifles continue to nap in the safe. Length of pull/height of comb/shape of grip seems about perfect to me. No problem, accurate, joy to carry rifles.

Kimbers are great rifles (own/owned 12 now) though I haven’t owned a .30-06 yet.
The hunter action and most barrels are the same as the other models (minus threading and bolt handle). The hunter 308 has a faster twist rate than the other models which is a bonus if shooting HFC. I swapped stocks with a Montana and then sold the Montana action wearing the hunter stock. The only thing I “lost” was the threaded barrel which means ****all in Canada anyway.
The hunter stocks are cheap but very comfortable and look decent. The mag is easy to remove with gloves having a generous amount of room for a covered finger to access the release.
The fore-stock has a lot of flex being made of plastic and I recommend filling with a self levelling, lightweight epoxy.
