My 350 Rem Mags have a 16 twist and stabilize even 300 grain bullets. I had a 358 Win with a custom 14 twist that did the same. My Savage 99 in 358 Win has a 12 twist and it is a surprisingly accurate affair with a tuned load. So yes 1-12 is a good choice. 1-14 would work as well.

When I had my MRC 1999 built in .358, I specified a 1 in 12" twist in order to stabilize heavy bullets if desired. I ended up using 225 gr Partitions for my Africa trip and they worked well at somewhat over book maximum loads. Since then, I have settled on 200 and 225 gr Barnes TSX or TTSX.with TAC powder, as written about by Mr. Barsness.

It did shoot 3 250 gr Hornady Spire points into one .377" inch hole, edge to edge, at 100 yards, though. My buddy spotting for me could hardly believe it except he saw it.

Me too. My 358 Win has 1:12" and my 35 Whelen has 1:14".

Thanks, Dinny
