I want to change a SA 700 I have that is a 223 into a 7-08. I know I can use a .473 bolt, mag box and follower but is there any difference in the way the feed ramp is cut?

Yes, feed rails on a 223 are narrower than on a standard bolt face short action. I polished up and removed a bit from a 223 receiver for a 6x47L project as it was the only short SS I had at the time. It fed without issues about 80%. Finally bought 'the correct' receiver for that size cartridge and it works 100%. Barreled the prior 223 receiver to 223AI and it feeds near perfect. Have had issues before with 223AI feeding trouble free with a 700.

So I should just trade it for a standard bolt face action. Thanks for saving me a headache.

How old is the Action ?
the new ones feed ramps are exactly the same - I bought 2 223 ADL’s, and a Stainless “308” action from Midway — all new - The ramps are the same..
So - Same, same
On the 223 bolt faces - I’m opening mine up and installing M16 extractors for 308 builds..

OP, As no one mentioned or noticed-
A .473",.532",.588" bolt face receiver rear bridge at aft end of ejection port has a 1/2 length football shape scallop inside for brass clearance upon ejection that a .378" face receiver does NOT have.
Numerous .378" S/A's receivers have been assembled w/ .473" & .532" face bolt chamberings that I've witnessed to date that drop brass back onto the follower.
Order an OEM un-molested or aftermarket .473" face bolt for a switch Bbl switch bolt rifle.
As mentioned by Spotshooter-ALL feed ramps are identical back to the predecessor 721 Long &/or 722 Short actions from the 40's to current RR pre-fix serial numbered receivers.
Feed rails vary slightly in length & width depending on chambering.

The action was made in 2018 and it does have the half football looking relief, the feed rails are narrower. I think I will keep it around for a future project fast twist 223AI build and just find a standard bolt faced 700 to build my next 7-08 on.

I just purchased a new 223 receiver to match the 223 bolt. Don't need feeding problems, but will need a .473 or SA mag bolt for another receiver.
