Same place I'm hunting this Sept. and every Sept. since 2000. It's in NE Oregon and I'm not saying where. I'll hunt that place until I can't swing up in a saddle again.

One of the good old boys up there is 73 this year. He packs his kid (my age) in for the archery season but he prefers the snow so he comes in for the rifle hunt. He still hunts up high in the deep snow just below the rimrock and he takes big bulls. When I grow up I want to be like him.

I'd like to hunt elk in any of the units across the Coconino Plateau in Arizona with a bit more regularity than once every 10 years...here's a photo of a bull in that region I was close to on Sunday afternoon. Pretty nice antler growth for July 1st huh?

This means that the little raghorns get to grow up to be at least little 6-points, unlike around Kremmling.

I do call it the old reliable spot for a reason. Our mules always pack elk out. I've seen one lower 300pt. bull taken out of there, a few in the mid to high 200's, but the norm are raghorns.

The scenery is nice.

That is awesome for July 1.

I'd go with New Mexico unit 6B, formerly known as the Baca Ranch.

If I could go on only one more elk hunt I'd kill myself and go straight to hell.
