The 6.5x47 Lapua is a fantastic cartridge. Really want one or the 6x47 Lapua next...

very nice rifle ... excellent chambering ... and incredible shooting for just short of 600 yards ...
hell ... I'd like to get that size group at half the distance with ANY rifle/chambering ... (grin)

WyoWhisper: What are the barrel specs? How fast are you shooting the 139's? Did you have any success with the 123g MK's?

What about the can? is this a .308 can or do they make a 6.5 can? That is a sweet looking rig you've got.
Thanks, Terry

an easy way to think of this cartridge is a 6.5/284 short... Darn near does what a 6.5/284 will do but in a S/A. Barrel is a Broughton, 5C, 8 twist at 25" Basically a 5.75 contour. This rifle shoots the 139's much better than the 123's. I had good accuracy at short distance with the 123's but not so good way out there. Velocity with the 139's is about 2800 - 2850 fps. I'm using RL15 but looking to change that up. The can is a Jett .308 and works wonderfully with the .264 dia boolits. I actually have a .308 barrel for this rifle and can switch between the 2. Started working with the Berger 140's and soon the 130's here's load development with the 140's... Here is 575 with the 140's slight breeze got me on the third shot (pushed me left ) or this would have been an unbelievable group.

Small or large primer pocket on the 6.5x47? Any numbers on velocity loss per inch of barrel? Really cool looking cartridge. Seems like nearly the perfect varmints through deer round. Hmmm SA 700, #4 at 22", Mickey stock... John

The Lapua brass uses small rifle primers. Thinking much the same as a great deer round though I'll probably run a 24" bbl...

John,
Check out the 6mmBR.com website. They have much info on this round as well as the 6x47 Lapua. Check out the rifles of the week. Several weeks/months back, there is a super shooting 6.5x47 Lapua...

I have the 6mm version and am about to give up on the 105`s ability to accurately run at the velocitys attainable with this round. I have 2 barrels chambered, an 8.5" twist and an 8" twist. Been shooting Tubb and Berger 115`s in the 8" and have to inconsistent groups. I bet the 6.5 or a wildcat necked to 25 is a good bet.

I bet you are referring to Daryl Jones rifle. Kampfeld built it, I have seen it.

The rifle I have was one of the first 3 Tactical Rifles Chambered. Exchanged e-mails/phone calls with some of the first to have any rifle chambered in this cartridge. People wondered on the feeding issues with Detachable Mags. Well, no worries, flawless feeding.
I am seriously considering doing a build up in a "walk-around" Deer/Varminter. I wouldn't do any more than a 25" barrel though. Seems to be the one of the perfect Deer rounds for under 500 yards. Loading the barnes TSX or MRX you could take deer sized game anywhere in N.A. Would be an Exceptional Child or Female, beginner/all around Cartridge. I tend to be recoil shy and this rifle has very little of it.
120/130 gr bullets should be the key. I anticipate the 130 gr Bergers to be the happy medium between velocity/weight/B.C..
