I am wondering if a fella could take a 700 tube in 270 and have it redone into a 270/08?

Not sure how the proper was is to ask that but I am guessing you're getting my drift.

Many thx

Sure, if the shank is long enough. Cut the threads off, rethread, chamber and bang away. If you are talking about a factory contoured tube, then chances are the shoulder will not be big enough after the back end of the tube is cut off.

I think it could work out alright. You would only have to shorten the barrel by about 9/16" to do it. You would end up using the original throat this way. If you wanted to end up with new neck and throat, you would have to take off the whole threaded tenon. I think it would still be OK though. GD

I'm guessing that he is considering the Ti barrel in the classifieds. That taper drops off pretty quick. I haven't measured it, but you would end up with a mighty small shoulder.

I have a 25 Souper made up on a Rem. 25/06 take off barrel that shoots just fine. I had 1 1/2ins. cut off the chamber end.
