Since many new rifles now come with detachable magazines, do they publish max OALs for them? Or is it mostly trial and error when reloading

Having researched this myself, many manufacturers do not. It's a small subset of their potential customers that want to know this or understand why it might matter. Oftentimes aftermarket magazine manufacturers will state the max COAL.
