'Been doing a lot of socuting since we moved up here to Brainerd. Man, there's a lot of public hunting opportunities up here. I've checked out several spots and have more work to do before gun season. You guys that have private property are really lucky. 'Wish I didn't have to contend with others in my chosen hunting areas.

Well, that luck isn't cheap or easy. Lotta work, lotta money.

We're probably going to get one more hot day. 85 predicted for tomorrow. Then I'm guessing it's going to be 50's and 60's til it gets cold.

How many guys did you see when you hunted in our area?


That's why I get my butt back in the bushes a mile or more.

Just the one truck that was parked down the road. I'd still like to have some private property. Dave's right-it does take a lot of work and money.

That guy doesn't hunt there anymore. But he sure built us a nice stand.

Got my BIL in for some scouting. We checked out a couple spots, saw a couple deer. Man, am I getting ramped up.

My place in Nowthen has tracks but I haven't seen anything there this year. I suppose that the winter coats are coming in and the weather is hot so they're probably nocturnal.

Mi saw a few does when I ran to the beer store this afternoon. 2 big does, stood up, hopped twice and laid back down. I don’t think they like this heat.

Hoping to bow hunt tomorrow and then again on Friday. I've got the Camp Ripley hunt next weekend. Been doing a lot of scouting for gun season. Narrowing down a few spots.

I've got a lot of peat bog out there. As dry as it's been they're probably bedded down out there.

Careful out in those peat swamps, ground hornets are bad this year.

Did a refurb on another used wood stove, trying a little bigger than the last one we put in.



Some elevated blind work, Nate's new observation tower. This stand is named "911".



More bracing has since been added, along with a ladder.

Our yellow lab, nicknamed "donkey" has become quite the bird hunter.

The railing and tin stuff is part of a toddler barricade we are developing. To keep little grandchildren away from the hot stove.

here is a replacement stand for the "dusty stand" which was crushed by a fallen tree this summer.



Still needs a new railing, usable tho, pretty sporty.



Also we replaced a window for one of the bedrooms, hopefully less drafty.



All that action plus a ton of shooting lane mowing, another busy and productive weekend.

You got it cleared out pretty well there around those stands.

I don't spend much time in the peat bog until it freezes anyway. I did run over a paper wasp nest last summer with the Bush hog without getting stung. Should be cold enough by second weekend that I won't need to worry about them. I'll be at my parents for opener.

My boy Nathan stepped on a ground hornet's nest last friday. Got zapped 3 timed before he could even blink.
