I have a Savage 1899F takedown in .250 -3000 and the opportunity to buy a spare barrel and forearm in .300 Savage.
Is the magazine rotor the same? Or would it at least feed and function properly!
I'd sure love to have a switch-barrel 99!

And Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canucks!

It's not just the rotor you need to worry about. I've found the cartridge guide to be super important.

I have a 1941 G 300 that I had adapted to a Westfield 250-3000 barrel, I haven't had any feeding problems with either cartridge but maybe I am just lucky.

A 300 rotor will work for a 250-3000, a 250-3000 rotor for a 300 not so well! the neck area isn't relieved enough for the 300 round to work correctly.

Well dang!

That's okay though, I was on the hunt for a really nice tomato stake, and found the ad for a front end for a 99G, barrel and forend, in .300 in dandy shape. Price about $285.00 US.
It may not be the deal it appears to be.

You could get it and try and tweek the cartridge guide a bit and see if it would work correctly ,or just relieve the front of the rotor neck area with a dremel and it would work fine ,or just put a 300 rotor in it. smile

One way to find out- try it. Worst case stick a .300 rotor in as said above.

Here's a thought.

Load your 250-3000 rifle up with 300 Savage cartridges. See if they'll load and feed into the chamber before you buy the barrel/forearm.

Just don't try to close the bolt on it. But no reason you can't cycle the whole mag through and test it.

Good thinking. Thanks.
