I have some Barnes TSX 100 GR BT, and a box of Nosler 100 GR Ballistic Tip BT. Wondering if anyone has used these in in their 1/10 twist guns and with what powder? I have IMR 3031. 4320, 4350,BL-C(2), H-335, RX 15,and Superformance at hand.

Thanks Keith I had seen that before, so guess they will work and the Barnes look to be the same length, just wondering if anybody had actually loaded and hunted with them. Barnes TSX seem to be popular. I have a friend that uses them exclusively in his 243 bolt.

Sir, I have a 99A in 250-3000 with one in ten twist. It has a 20 inch barrel .I have found that the Sierra 100 Pro Hunter Bullet and 35.5 to 36.0 of IMR 4320 gives 2850 +- and is at the edge of what is reasonable for pressure in this gun. The loaded cartridge OAL 2.560. I have used it once on whitetail doe at about 106 yds from a stand. It hit just above the lower shoulder. It broke both shoulders and took off the top of the heart. Never broke both shoulders before with any gun. I guess the angle was just right. The bullet just kept going and was not recovered. I thought more velocity would be better, but this load killed this deer just fine. There was a lot of bloodshot meat and both lower shoulders had to be thrown away. She didn't go anywhere though. The deer was a smallish doe that was taken on GA/FL Border. The damage and killing power was much more than I anticipated. I was going to try some Hornady 87 grain bullets but I may just stay with these 100 Grain Sierras.

I bought this 99A 250 in the mid 70's new and still own it. My favorite load is enough IMR4350 to break 2800FPS with the discontinued 100 gr. Hornaday. I have killed quite a few Blacktail with this load. I have a few boxes of this bullet saved for this rifle and when they are gone will probably switch to the 100 gr. BT. A little off topic but when did people start calling these Saddle Guns? I don't believe Savage ever did and they don't have a saddle ring. I once owned a 99 that looked a lot like my 99A but it did have a saddle ring and was a 25-35.

Thanks for the load data guys. The 99A was introduced in 1971 and Savage advertised it as a saddle gun, stressing the nostalgic aspect of the gun. ( David Royal A Collectors Guide to the Savage 99 Rifle )

For y 14 twist Savage I load 87gr SpeerHot Core over R15. For my 10 twist I load 100gr Noslr Partition over H4895. Both very accurate.

Got mine new in '71, it loves 33.5 grains of IMR 4064 pushing a Sierra 100 gr. (# 1625). It is just what the Dr. ordered on NH whitetail.
