I see that they load what they simply call a pointed soft point (PSP) bullet in their "High Performance Rifle" line, which is separate from the Core-Lokt line. What is the difference between the PSPs in the Core-Lokt and High Performance Rifle lines? I always thought all Remington cup-and-core bullets were Core-Lokt. Apparently not.

Thanks, in advance.

Remington had or has a bonded core soft point. Lets hope it holds together better than their green box bullets did.

Although i don't use them now because i reload i have shot lots of Core-lokts in the past when i shot factory ammo with excellent results on game. There has probably been more game harvested with a Rem Core-Lokt than any other bullet on the planet and there's still countless game falling everyday to the ole tried and true Core-Lokt bullet. If i still shot factory ammo i wouldn't hesitate to use the Core-Lokt and would have full confidence in doing so when i squeezed the trigger.

Core Lokts kill. Hopefully Federal will keep them around. I have a box of 221 fireball that said PSP but I just want the brass so not worried about the bullet performing.

Most Core Lokt bullets haven't been anything special for a good while now. Some of the round nosed ones may still have thick jacket side walls.

The CoreLokt is & always has been the pointed soft point.

Did you mean to emphasize the "the pointed soft point"

Because RNCL have been around for some time...

OP
Have you compared BC numbers?
The CL generally has a petty dirty BC.
Maybe the PSP is targeted at those whom focus on high BC values?

No intent to say it was only ever a PSP. Just meant that when Remington started marketing the spitzer bullet they titled them "pointed soft point" at some point. All of my CoreLokt ammo from the late 70's display said label.

The 300 Savage factory loads were labeled PSP Core Lokt.

I prefer classic.

I doubt there is any difference besides the box they are put into. Call it "High Performance", and charge more. Bubba doesn't have a clue. Marketing genius.

"our High Performance Rifle series consists of a multitude of calibers and popular bullet styles to match your specialized hunting and shooting pursuits. All assembled with premium components and the ultra-tight tolerances that put more home reloading presses on the back shelf than any other brand."

P.S. - I'm putting my reloading press away tonite . . .

Kinda like Federal "Power-shok and "non-typical"
Both have the exact same ballistics table, bc, sd...

the old (1980's for sure) ammo boxes explained what the differences between Core-Lokt psp and plain psp. I stol ths picture from e-bay because I'm being lazy and not digging out one of my boxes. The 250/3000 was sold with a 100 gr psp, not a CL.

It is labeled as CL now, but the Remington boxes I used and shot back in the 1980-90's were plain psp, not CL. The 300 sav boxes of the same vintage (DuPont as the owner) Remington ammo boxes were specifically labeled as CL. So now the 250 ammo turns up as CL with the same item number as the old plain psp ammo of 1984. Would be nice to know what changed, bullet-wise, from 1984 to 2020.

Understood. I have a few boxes of 250 that are PSP. I wouldn't be surprised if nothing changed except labeling.

More interesting stuff.

I have one box of 250 Savage that read Pointed Soft Point on the end flap and the top of the box it's listed as Express.

Several boxes read PSP on the end flap and also listed as Express.

Then I have 3 boxes that also read 250 Savage 100gr PSP on the end flaps but the top of the box reads Corelokt.

So who knows. It seems as though they have the 100gr PSP bullet in Corelokt boxes
