6mmbrfan: I consider myself a half century long (actually 61+ years of Remington ownership now) fan of Remington guns and gear and I have NO idea what you are referring to (talking about!)? Please explain and maybe I can help you out. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

He’s referring to the Gen1 flat style safety lever, I believe?

That's the way i would interpret it . He’s referring to the Gen1 flat style safety lever, I believe? The "knob" on the safety lever resembles a tombstone vs the rounded top on newer/current models.

That is a very confusing.
I thought the old safety that I think he is referring to was called a bat wing safety.

Close up of the tombstone shaped safety button. I pulled this out of my 1965ish Rem 700 6mm Rem.

I've always heard them called the tombstone safety.
I use them on my serious hunting rifles.
Used to be a guy could hardly give them away, then the yuppies all decided they needed replica Vietnam era M24's and the older style trigger and safety lever became a "collectors item".
