I have been revisiting The BBoGGII, and came across your reference to Bob Brister's use of release triggers on shotguns for competition. This made me wonder if anyone has ever done anything with release triggers for rifles in regard to target shooting, prairie dog shooting, or any other use.

I'm quite familiar with a release trigger on a shotgun, probably 15-20% of trapshooters will at one time or another shoot a release. As far as I know, they have never been used on a rifle, mostly because very light triggers are readily available. More and more skeet and SC shooters are using one as well.
The downside on a bolt gun would be opening the bolt with your off hand while holding the trigger back. With a break open gun it's simple, hold it back, and push the lever with your thumb, but working a right side bolt with your left hand while your right hand is holding the trigger back would be pretty rough.

5sdad,
I have also never heard of using a release trigger on a rifle, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened.
