I recently purchased a J105 and a Kelty Gila. The Gila has a Mystery Ranch suspension system and I have been attempting to get my adjustments correct. Are these adjustments normally done with weight in the packs? Also, on the J105, the lateral cinch straps cross over the outside pockets. Has anyone had problems with equipment stored in the outside pocket getting broken because of pressure from the cinch straps while carrying meat? It seems to me that a lot of pressure would be places on items like cameras and spotting scopes in this situation.

I always use about half a normal load to set a suspension...20 -30 lbs. maybe.
There's no question that the J105 cinch straps could crush something. Make sure you remove anything to another spot before cinching.

You may get in the ballpark with 30 pounds but loading the [bleep] out of a pack will really expose the flaws in the fit.
When it fits well with 80 pounds (fits well, not "feels good") you're good to go.
The Bill of Rights is just that. It is not the Bill of Needs as determined by some liberal know it all.
Politicians and diapers should be changed often for precisely the same reason.

I agree and was just making up some more training/testing weights yesterday. I use concrete blocks, wrapped in old towels, sheets and other discarded household linen for padding; I then wrap these in plastic rice bags and old, smelly nylon stuff sacks.
I have a 75 lb. bag of sand so encased and three of these as well as another old stuff sack full of rags to emulate my sleeping bag in my packs. I vary the weights and use my different packs to TRY of keep fit, break in the packs and keep familiar with their particular little adjustments.
Today, I am going to try 90 lbs. in my Kifaru Longhunter Rondy, a good workout and it is quite comfortable with this weight...for a geezer, anyway!
I like to train/test to about TWICE what I feel OK about packing on actual mountain treks, makes it seem easier and gives me a very good workout.

Here is my ugly mug with my new MR Nice Frame and load hauler with a 132 lb ugly teen ager in it. I could'nt carry that kind of weight with my old pack frame. I carried him around until he started complaining, but the small kids love it. My wife thinks I am nuts!
Good Shooting!
