Well I just don't get it. I thought Intel makes chips and sells chips. If they're going to just buy chips and sell chips, what the heck are they going do to stay in business when TSMC hires some better salesmen?

They stopped being a manufacturer and started being a diversity experiment.

Intel in Hillsboro, Oregon employs 21,000 people.

It'll be interesting to see how many of those 21,000 people get cut. I'd guess that it will be all of them before it's all said and done.

From the construction cranes and billions of dollars of expansion at DX1, I doubt it's going to happen any time soon. But I'd hate to dash the fever dreams of our sage from Ken-Tuck-Eee.

Yeah, that's why they have not yet and might not take that step.

But it’s the advanced research and manufacturing that serves as the center of gravity for Intel’s Oregon operations, and if Intel sends the production work elsewhere it will inevitably diminish the state’s role within the company."

It just points to more problems in America’s manufacturing base. Intel has had some management issues for some time, like most older tech companies. AMD is Intels biggest competitor and outsources all their production and just does development and sales.

I don’t think manufacturing is Intels biggest issue, innovation and management is. To push a tech company ahead you need engineers and risk takers leading. It’s a problem for older companies to find the right leadership.
