I haven't had much luck with anything Remington has put out in the last 10 years or so. I guess I'm not the only one judging by there current status. Anyway against my better judgment I bought a 5R in 308 from a good friend of mine who took it in on trade and never shot it and near as I can tell I'm the 3rd owner. It came with 4-5 boxes of various factory ammo ranging from black hills 175gr to hornady 168gr and everything in between. It seemed to shoot most all of it into around 1 1/2" groups at 100 yds. The only load I've found that barely shot around an inch is a 43gr of imr 4064 and a 168gr sierra. I can't seem to get any consistency at all with hunting bullets like the 168gr nbt or the 165gr gameking. I feel like it should shoot those bullets. Ive ruled out the scope being the problem. I have not gave the bore a good scrubbing but it sure does look good. I'm thinking of having it bedded in the HS precision stock and if that doesn't fix it send it on down the road. Anyone have any better ideas?

I would check the following as well as bedding the lug and tang. Front scope base screw length- Make sure it’s not contacting barrel threads. Magazine box height. Not binding in bottom metal when tightened down. What trigger is in it? Are you using a proven scope?

Factory trigger which is what it is. What's the best replacement for the money? I'll give the other things a check thanks.

I've got an 805 tuned trigger in mine. Works well.

I had the barrel set back on mine due to long throat, crown re-cut, and the fore end of the stock glassed and beefed up, and the gun went from the 1 1/2" gun you describe to regularly shooting sub moa. Also installed a Jewel trigger.
Good luck!

I've only had one 5R .308 and I dropped it into a Mag-Pul handle with the bedding block. Tuned up the trigger. It shot several loads under MOA without a lot of fiddling. 155 Scenars and RL15 wound up being the winner.
Now with even more aplomb

My 5r shoots great with out any difficulty. Cut barrel from 24 to 22 to be more compact and put trigger tech trigger on it. It likes 165gr federal fusion ammo alot. Sub moa when I'm doing my part.
You'll shoot your eye out
