With all the Leupold bashing going on I am curious what the general consensus is on the VX-7. I have a chance to buy a 2.5-10 at a good price. Are these scopes any more reliable using a CDS dial? Thanks in advance.

Haven’t used a VX7 2.5-10x, so can’t comment on reliability and tracking in the first hand, but I’ve seen tracking problems with many other models of Leupold scopes. I can answer your second question about reliability improving by adding a CDS dial, and the answer is “no”.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I worded my question wrong. I’m not under the illusion reliability gets better with the CDS dial. I just wondered if the VX-7 with the CDS dial is more reliable than the current Leupold lineup using the CDS dial. Thanks again.

The Leupold website shows a VX-3, VX-5, VX-6, but not VX-7 nor 2.5-10

I've never heard of a VX7. I'm holding out for a VX20. I'm hoping by then they will have their chidt together...

It was Leupold’s offering to compete with the high end Euro stuff. The most expensive sporting optic they ever made I think. Was discontinued 12 years ago or so if my memory is correct.

I have a friend who had 2 of them. The glass was on par with European glass at the time. I've never heard him complain of tracking or reliability problems but he is more of a set and forget type hunter than a turret twister. Not sure how a VX-7 would compare to present VX-6 models for glass quality but back in the day it was great.

ten pages...

A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

It was a great scope but over priced for the market place, they lowered the price to a more reasonable level with the VX-6.
My friend bought one in 2010 but it might have already been discontinued....awesome glass
