Well- I splurged and bought the Leupold Alumina flip up lens covers for my newly mounted Leupold 3-15x44mm VX 5 HD. No problem spinning the rear eyepiece cover on but the front cover does not have enough clearance to thread the cover on due to hitting the top of the barrel! I have already burned a lot of pricey ammo getting it dialed in so taking the scope off just for a lens cover is not going to happen. Question- I wnet to Butler Creek's website and they have 2 differnet sizes that are supposed to fit the 44mm objective (No.'s 21 & 23)...... Which one actually fits the Leupold 44mm?
Thanks

Objective size is the #34 for 2.100" (53.3m)
Eyepiece is a #16 for 1.66" (42.2mm)

Don't the alumina's for those have an 'inner' ring like all the rest of them? If so, no need to remove the scope......

I reckon that 30incher don't know how to install them then.....
Put them in place, and screw in that inner knurled ring till its where you want it. Done.
These things are above some's pay grade, even when they can afford them.....

I assume what he saying is the lip that extends off of the cover to allow you to flip it contacts the scope when you spin it on…

Aren’t the Butler Creek slip on cover going to be even thicker?

I assume what he saying is the lip that extends off of the cover to allow you to flip it contacts the scope when you spin it on… There is no 'lip' (other than the hinge, on mine). You don't just 'spin them on', if the hinge contacts the barrel. The threads are independent of the housing. There is a knurled inner ring that allows you to position the housing, and spin the inner ring (with connected threads) to thread into the scope bell. Most just can't figure that out..... PS. It also helps to 'clock' the hinge a tad when threading in the insert. Thatta way, you can use the housing to get a little tighter and still have them in the position you want, without having them as easy to come unthreaded.

There's a Youtube video put up by Leupold on how to do it. A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video clip is worth a thousand pictures.

That's right. He just hasn't figured out how to do it yet.

Thanks for the replies- even the backhanded sarcastic ones. I did not realize the aluminas had the independent inner-threads. Thanks
