I'm in the stock up stage right now. Wish I'd started it 6 months ago before prices started to creep up. Before I posed the question to you I went and looked at the obvious online retailers, and sure enough, turned up nada.

I could see myself returning to the 7-30 w/ a heavier barrel profile on a Contender. Still have a SS frame that I could play with. Have exactly one dusty box of Fed 7-30 ammo...

Re the SS lever...
I went through that phase a year of two ago and I think I've gotten it out of my system. I've got more than I need of 'em and don't intend to get rid of them, but ain't currently looking for any more. Your idea does have merit though.

You could rebarrel a Rem 788 in .30-30 - but collectors would skin you alive for doing it. You could rebarrel a Savage 340 easily and with no collectability qualms, but 340s are a bit clunky and require a side-mount scope. I like my 340 in .30-30 and have an aperture sight on it, but I don't hunt with it; it's strictly a cast bullet range plinker.

I can't think of another bolt action that could be modified, unless somebody could rework a rifle in .303 Brit. or a Krag. Bolt actions and rimmed rounds are just a difficult proposition, mainly due to feeding issues. Rims are much more compatible with single shots and levers.

RR,
I had wanted one for years and looked at the Tulsa show for one for three years and found not a one. I bought a NIB XTR 94 in .307 and was going to rebarrel in 7-30, but got to looking at the 7mm STE and went that way. Michael Ullman rebarreled it for me and it shoots like a dream. It sends the Nosler 120 gr fp bt clipping along at 3,000 fps.
Good Shooting!
Marcus.
