He was an incredible man and one of the nicest you could ever meet. I met him once at the Reno Air Races in the mid 1970s. My dad and I attended the event and Dad spotted Mr. Yeager and introduced me to him. He was an excellent hunter also and loved chasing elk. He gave one of his prized elk rifles, a Weatherby Mark 5 in 300 Weatherby Mag, to outdoor writer Jim Zumbo on a Wyoming elk hunt when Zumbo was hunting with a 30-06. In one of his articles, Zumbo said Mr. Yeager gave him the rifle and said, "Here, you need a good elk rifle." Rest in Peace, General Yeager.
