For a lightweight hunting rifle, if you were going to install a stainless 270 barrel, which barrel maker would you choose to do it?
Pac Nor, Hart, other? 5 or 6 groove?

Hard to buy a bad barrel these days. Find out what your gunsmith recommends and go with that...

I’ve had excellent results with Shilen and Lila stainless barrels, but they were not 270.

It depends on what you want lightweight to be. Contour weights can vary a good bit by maker. There's plenty of great barrels out there. I've used a bunch but the absolute "best" is probably one of the cut rifle makers. As said above, your gunsmith may have a preference and that should carry some weight. Mine prefers Hart and I haven't had a bad one yet.

Don’t know if you can get them across the border but Hugh Williamson Precision makes a fantastic barrel. My .270 HWP is the easiest barrel to develop a load for I’ve ever worked with.
I liked it so much I ordered another HWP barrel, this one a 6.5, had it chambered in 6.5 PRC.

Criterion, if they do that cartridge. I have five barrels and all have shot great.
You did not "seen" anything, you "saw" it. A "creek" has water in it, a "crick" is what you get in your neck. Liberals with guns are nothing but hypocrites.

I have a Lilja 1:8 3-groove factory Kimber 84L contour that's a very good shooter w/150ABLR.
I can walk on water.......................but I do stagger a bit on alcohol.

I only have 1 custom barreled .277. It is a $3 3 groove Lilja in 270 WSM.
It shoots 130 BT's, 130 Swift Scirocco, and 130 Swift A-Frames into the same group all combined about 3/4"
3 for 3 with great barrels from Lilja including a .224 and .243.
It is pretty easy to get a good shooting barrel anymore.

Several makers won't make anything but a heavy barrel in stainless, Krieger, Bartlein, and Brux. A lot of good makers have been mentioned, I'd probably check Rock Creek, Hart, and Lilja first if I wanted a lightweight stainless. Number of grooves doesn't matter really, I'd ask the barrel maker and take his recommendation. Be sure and twist it right, at least 1-9" for a .270.

I never tried for a .270 barrel, but Rock, Brux, and Barline wouldn't do a #3 in SS for my .338-06. I went with Pac-Nor because they would. So I'd make a few calls and see who will build the barrel you want.

For a .270 Win, if you want 1:10" twist, Douglas is the "easy button". 6 to 8 weeks for a new barrel of your choice fitted and returned. However, Douglas does not list a 1:8" twist for heavy 0.277" bullets. For 1:8" twist, Lilja or Pac-Nor.

As for twist, I believe the normal 1/10 would do the job. I shoot mainly the 130 or 140 grain bullets for my deer hunting.
