New to ar15's and as I understand it, you can mix lowers and uppers of different manufacturers. My question is, will a Rockriver lower work OK with a DPMS upper and has anyone tried this combo. Thanks in advance.

Basically yes. Some are snugger than others, I have 2 that I ahve to tap the pins in with a mallet or screwdriver handle... And some just pop on. Theory says you can have a set taht won't pin up but in all my years I"ve never seen on, I've had very close but never not at all.

Generally, Colt is the only brand that may not be compatable. Their front pin is either larger or smaller than conventional, and a lot of Colts have the same size pin. So it's a bit confusing.
You can buy the lower drilled to fit the Colt upper in most instances.
Not many problems you can't fix With a 1911 and a 30-06

Speaking of RR lowers, that's what my local shop gets in, stripped, from time to time. Any reason to not snag one or two of 'em? Is there a better lower? What should I expect to pay for a stripped RR lower? Finally, would a stripped RR or DPMS upper be a good starting platform?

Answering for me..... the above, all are ok generally speaking
(Gene- thanks for mentioning COlt, I"d forgotten about them totally)
RR stripped, 115/120 more than likely. RRA uppers or DPMS, as good as any others IMHO.

Thanks Jeff!
I love putting things together... used to work in a machine shop... I think I can put together an AR! Guess I'll snap up a couple lowers for the fun of it...

Ain't hard to do, especially with that mechanical background.

Well, let me backtrack a little so as not to oversell my abilities. I worked summers in college in machine shops, then had a very interesting job after college at a blimp company (US/LTA, they still have a website, check it out!) where I did a lot of prototyping, to include electronics assy, sheetmetal, and various types of precision machining...
So I'm no journeyman machinist, but I'm familiar with metal, tools, making things, taking them apart, etc. Oh yeah, and real estate!
