With either straight grip (plain or checkered) or pistol grip with checkering. Nothing on the auction sites strikes my fancy. Polished barrels, pack hardening, and fancy wood are all pluses, but not required.

Not to be a smart ass but, Comparing a Shiloh to a Pedersoli is ridiculous. I live 1 hrs drive from Big Timber where Shiloh and C sharps are built. Both excellent rifles, but I prefer Shiloh as they are a piece of art that shoots. Do yourself a favor and give them a call or hold out for a good used one. They are excellent to deal with and the girls who answer the phone really know their stuff. Daryl.

No offense taken I was half asleep and reading comprehension was failing me. My apologies. I realize the difference also.
Merry Christmas.

While the 1875 is an elegant little action, I have my heart set on Old Reliable.

Scope blocks are kind of a bummer.

Anyone got constructive criticism or apples to apples comparisons concerning Pedersoli, and Shiloh. Asking because I really don't know. I had a Pedersoli for a couple years that I babysat for a friend. It was a fancy one with gold inlays and metal engraving and I never used it for fear of buggering it, and it wasn't mine. Gave it back eventually. It was worth 1800-2000 or thereabouts. I decided I wanted a more pedestrian Sharps for knocking around but I still haven't decided, and the price is not going down. Some of Pedersoli's muzzleloaders are considered well-made for replicas.

Since you asked -- about 12 years ago I was in the BPCR game. I used to compete out to 500 yards at local club. At one point there was a Pedersoli Silhouette in 45-70, a C. Sharps in 45-100 and a Browning BPCR in 45-70 in my collection. I shot them all -- a lot. The Pedersoli shot the best, once I figured out how to load for it. It seems Pedersolis have long throats, so I went up to a 535 gr. Postell bullet that I cast from wheel weights. That was the answer -- long and heavy. One ragged hole at 100 yds and steel plates at 500 yds. All are gone now, but if I could get one of them back, it would be the Pedersoli.

Shiloh Sharps and C-Sharps made in America. You can call either place and talk to someone that knows their products and can give support if you ever have problems. Buy what ever you want, but ignorance is bliss..
