I have a Marlin 336 chambered in 35 Rem. Looking to get a rough idea as to value. I have a buddy that keeps bugging me about selling it, and seeing prices all over the map I have no idea what to price it for. I know what I paid for it but not sure if that’s the actual value or not. I’m not really a lever gun guy but also not sure I want to sell it but I could be persuaded price depending. The rifle is JM stamped, has the bullseye on the buttstock without a sling stud through it. I didn’t put the inlay on there. It was there when I bought it, as was the Williams mount, and hammer extension. Rifle is as close to 100% as you can get. No scratches/marks/impressions in the wood and no bluing loss.

I’ve never seen one with that diamond on the stock. Great looking rife.

Non original stock hurts the value to me. Collectors won't want it for a reasonable price. Sale to a friend, I would say $300.

I have an old (pre-serial number) Leupold on a 336ER and it still works great. Don't be afraid of the old scope. Scope, mount and hammer extensions are extra $$$. And it even has the front sight hood. It seems that most do not. Stock is deinately an issue for personal taste. I am assuming that the checkering and inlays were professionally done, or at least by a skilled cratsman. Some old Marlins did have checkered stocks but I cannot say which years. And I am not a fan of recoil pads. I never found the recoil of a 35 Rem to be an issue.

Tough crowd......around here the newer Marlins with safety’s and questionable quality sell for 500-600$ and that’s used....I wouldn’t let this one go for any of the prices mentioned above. Buddy is trying to trade me a Belgian made sweet 16 for the .35......even at that. I think I’ll just hang onto it.

Somewhere between 500-600, stock is a nice touch but does effect the resale.
Tell me the odds of putting grease on the same pancake? I Know they are there, well ice and house slippers. -Kawi

I disagree somewhat with their others - the stock work does hurt the collectors value of this gun but the stock work appears to be very well done (whether it is appealing to one is another story)........I personally kinda like the stock work/checkering and wouldn’t sell it for anywhere near the quotes here. If you were to hire that stock work and checkering you be adding significant $$ - just need to find the right person - I’d hold on to it and if the “right” person comes along fine. I’d buy that rifle all day long at $600......heck the checkering is $250 minimum (assuming it’s well executed and it appears so) and inlays like that would be in that neighborhood+.
Just my 2cents worth, PennDog

Just my 2cents worth, PennDog I agree. Some people will view the stock work as a negative and some as a positive. From the pics the checkering looks great. I’d guess that $650 would be a reasonable ballpark.

I think your nuts, a sweet 16 in decent shape is something one could use.
Life is good live it while you can.

Stock mod or not, there aren't a ton of nice JM 35s floating around... might be worth hanging onto a while longer. Just my 2 cents.

If the Sweet 16 is nice with a vent rib, you would be coming out double ahead.

Like stated above. I’m gonna keep it. After getting it out and really looking at it, I remember why I bought it.
I don’t have much use for an automatic 16ga shotgun.
