Those guys are always talking 5 shot groups. So, when they say "5/8 or 1/2 or .75 moa", you get the picture. Like you've commented in the past, the black rifle challenge, here, really sets us apart from those yay hoos over there. I never shoot my AR's for 5 shot groups, so I don't have anything recorded as far as what moa I get. I do know that I have shot some 1 hole 5 shot groups when I'm shooting my 10 shot groups for the black rifle challenge. To me, that's where you really find out how the rifle and shooter performs together. That's more important to me. 3 and 5 shot groups don't tell you much... I'm sorry you are bored today..

AR's are certainly capable of 1/2 MOA and better accuracy. The weak link is usually the shooter, barrel, and ammo, as we've seen in the 24HC-BRC thread. For what they are, they are accurate enough. People need to quit chasing benchrest precision with them and just shoot good ammo in them and blame misses on themselves.

I'll dissagree to a certain extent. If you don't strive to be better, you will never get better. "Chasing benchrest precision", as you put it, is motivation to be better. More people need to strive to be better. All this talk about being top chidt and not proving it, sure gets fu cking old... Or should we all just agree, that we are all 1/4 moa shooters?

My take on the linked thread & most other threads there, is the propensity & the high (almost 100%) of the posters on SH all having sub-MOA rifles...............just flat doesn't happen except with the ones with very exceptional & high quality barrels, of which there is a good number there, & a better than average shooter.

But also a lot that are not............in reality.

To me, this reads more like a bunch of guy who go out with 20 rounds, shoot 6 groups of 3 shots each and select the best one, so everyone has a 1/2 MOA gun.

Mine are shooting dime size groups - but you often hear precision used and it can mean a great many things...

Bet every one of these were precision AR’s, 75 shots 3 different ranges and the agg for 25 shots each range under .28”.

Shooting at paper is boring as hell. Once I get a load developed, most of my rifles never see paper again absent a need to re-zero for some reason. Steel at distance, for me, is a much more useful expenditure of time and ammo.

pretty much what liliysdad said. I have never enjoyed punching paper targets. My hunting is at close ranges, under 100 yards certainly. "good enough" is, well, good enough

Tolerances are stackable so I like having a rifle that is more accurate (by far) than I can shoot by hand...

Ideally I’m working on making the later up to snuff.

The most accurate rifle I own right now is an AR.

Consistently shoots in the .3’s with most quality built ammo.
