And before you believe the opinions out there that they are only good for lighter bullets, my 700TI on a 725 only likes 140's, at least in factory loads..Hates 120s nd 160's. Haven't tried any 129 nor much in refining reloads for it in the lighter bullet weights. I need to get around to that some day.
140 is a good bullet weight - I can live with MOA.
You need to wring it out to see what it will shoot well before doing anything too drastic.
OTOH, I bought a few boxes of Remington factory ammo with 120 grain BTs, 125 grain Partitions, and 140 grin PCLs. I shot all 3 styles in 3 different rifles with the 120 grain BTs,doing the best, 125 grain Partitions a little worse, and the 140 grain PCLs the worst of the lot. That said, the discontinued Speer Nitrex 140 grain factory loads shot quite well in the same 1-9" ROT factory barrels. Some of the early 140 grain Remington PCL factory loads were very slow, between 2,500 and 2,600 fps, which could have been why they shot so poorly in my Remington 7's 20" barrel, 700 LSS-MR's 22" barrel,, and 700 BDL DM SS 24" barrel.
I got the best accuracy with 140 grain Partitions from my 1-9" 260s when I pushed them at or above the maximum recommended loads, but settled on the 129 and 130 grain bullets for shooting whitetails and the 95 and 100 grain bullets for coyotes and non-trophy deer. I have long wanted the 125 grain Partition to work for me, but try as I might, I've yet to own a rifle that would shoot them into groups as small as the 129 grain Hornadys and the 130 grain AB.
Since every barrel is different, your barrel might shoot like LAS' or it might shoot like mine.
