Serial # H577xx
Top-break
4” barrel, with “target” grips
Barrel is marked in two lines on the top rib:
“IVER JOHNSON ARMS & SYCLE WORKS
FITCHBURG, MASS, U.S.A.
IJ was the originator of the “Hammer the Hammer” transfer-bar safety system in 1896
I bought this via auction in 2010 as a “hide-out” prop to carry at CAS matches – even though the 4” barrel is slightly too long and the “target” grip is too big for that role. I selected this one partly because similar S&W models of the era were too hard to find, partly because I liked the “Hammer the Hammer” safety idea, and partly because I was set up at the time to handload for the .32 S&W Long cartridge. I thought I’d probably find some smaller replacement grips. But then I never got a round tuit.
One of the “ears” that acts as a latch stop is broken off (see pics with pen aimed toward the missing “ear”). These two “ears” have nothing to do with the locking mechanism and the gun appears to be completely safe to fire. (I haven’t, but wouldn’t hesitate.)
$250, shipped to your (Conus) FFL. PM if interested.
