I recently traded for a new Savage Axis short action in 6.5 Creedmoor and noticed the action is actually an intermediate action. I have an extra barrel in 6.5 Rogue, which is almost identical to the 6.5x55AI, on a long action savage 110. I loaded some 6.5x55 cartridges in the Creedmoor's detachable mag and cycled the action enough to feed a cartridge. It appears there would be no problem cycling 6.5 Rogue cartridges in the Axis. My question is, has anyone ever re-barreled an Axis short action to 7x57 Mauser or 6.5x55 Swedish?

I have not but the standard seating for my 6.5x55 loads is 3.10-3.15 so ideally you would have a 3.2" action minimum. A 3" action with appropriate throating could work but you would be seating on the deeper side.
