Hey Guys,

Asking for a friend. He's got a 1937 model 70 in about 80% condition. Only modifications are a hole drilled and tapped on rear bridge (Redfield base mounted) and the bolt handle has been professionally ground for clearance. Action screws a little buggered but its otherwise unmodified. Stock isn't in bad condition other than original finish checking.

Only rub is the bore. See pics...its rough BUT it did shoot 150s into 1 3/4 to 2 inch groups. No exterior rust.

Question is how much is this gun worth if he were to sell it.

Serial number (12xx)?

Lower one could add some value.

You need some better pics, and more pics. I am in the $1,000 - $1,250 camp. Pics may change that drastically up or down. There is a lot going for it. Pics will tell the tale.

That’s an early one. I’d say around 750-850 depending on other factors. Anyone collector would be turned off by the modifications to the bolt handle and tapping of the receiver more than the bore condition.

I think the cons outweigh the pros. JMHO though. Bore looks like railroad tracks, not very good accuracy because of it. IF the stock has not been messed with, that is a plus. A good unmolested cloverleaf stock is hard to find these days. The drilling and tapping on the rear bridge hurts the collector value, along with the ground bolt handle. I don't care who did it. Bubba with a flap wheel or dremel or a well known smith. Makes no difference. Its ground on, end of story. The chambering also hurts the value, as the 30-06 was the most common chambering. If it were more rare, it would be worth more. Its definitely not worth $1,250.00 to me, but would probably sell for that on gunbroker, as prices on everything there, is very high these days. If selling to a buddy or locally, I'd value it more like $850.00

The original safety would be a negative factor. Tilden replacement safties are getting hard to find and the original safety works backwards for today's shooters (including me, and I'm "pre-War" myself).
