Seems like Toyota is past due on a new model Tundra. Time for a complete overhaul. Any news on when we'll see one?

I thought 2022 they were coming out with an all new tundra and new engine configuration? Moving away from the 5.7 and 4.6. Could be wrong though.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Like Chevy replacing the 350/5.7 with the 5.3.

From what I hear, the updated Tundra 2022 should be debuted soon. Most reports have it powered by a TTV-6, but I'm hoping for a updated V-8 option. No V-8 option will cost Toyota a lot of customers.
Other rumored changes are a coil spring rear suspension and a hybrid powerplant option.

I've heard they are even coming out with a 10 speed transmission. Trying to up the gas mileage.

They need different rear end options badly, and updated electronics system. They don't sell enough Tundra's to hardly be relevant with the current config.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

It's supposed to be powered by a version of the 3.5 liter twin turbo V-6 that's in the lexus LS500 with a 10 speed transmission. Fuel mileage is supposed to be significantly better.
I have a 2016 Tundra and I'll trade for a new one a couple of years after it's been out. I don't care that they're getting rid of the V8, there's nothing magical about a V8 and the V6 with turbos will likely be a stronger engine. The fuel mileage of the 5.7 is dismal which is why mine sits in the shed most of the time and I run around in the Camry. I'd like to have a truck that isn't going to break me if I drive it to town.
The current Tundra hasn't been significantly updated in 14 years. That's ridiculous and whoever at Toyota that decided to let it go that long should have been shot. It's only a testament to Toyota quality that they sell any at all when other major truck makers are putting out new designs every few years. It's way, way past time they updated the Tundra. There are a lot of us who are loathe to buy a Ford, GM, or Ram product because we've been burned by their crap before. We'd just like to be able to buy a reliable truck that was designed within the last decade.

What I read about the 2022 model is that the Tundra is going to use the turbocharged motor that has been in the Lexus for years and is proven reliable. The articles also mentioned the new rear end suspension and a ten speed transmission as upgrades for the new model.

Toyota is indeed debuting an all-new truck later this year.
It's long overdue given the current Tundra's ancient tech; and the fuel mileage has always been absolutely ridiculous, ....'but, but it's a truck!" The current 13-17mpg is a complete embarrassment.
As a huge fan of the 3.4V6 in the T100 and the reliability of the Tundra, I hope to be first in line to buy one. For those of us who aren't pulling a 20,000# 5th wheel or turning 35" hoops, 24-25 mpg should be expected in 2021.
I have a first gen tundra and the wife has a Lexus SUV, they never need anything short of oil changes.

As soon as they get done copying Ford's 3.5 EcoBoost engine. a true gem lol. And Toyota should employ union labor (UAW) to build it so the engine or tranny schits the bed before 60k miles

I bought a new 2015 so I figure I could also afford the gas. What lightens the impact of fuel has been great performance while towing, and the $0 in maintenance I’ve had to spend. I got them to throw in 90k miles in free oil changes!

Pretty amazing they haven’t really done any serious updating of the Tundra/Sequoia OR the Tacoma in over 10 years.
Kind of a shame they’re going to a more complicated turbo V6 (in the Tundra/Sequoia), rather than sticking with a conventional V8. They certainly need to do something about the mileage, but let’s face it, the Tacoma has been a dog, too. Seems like a new transmission behind the old V8 would have gone a long way towards getting the extra 3-4mpg they needed to keep up with their competitors.
