Has anyone tried or dreamed of rebarreling an 84L to 9.3x62?
A buddy has a hankering to do this after using one of my 84Ls. Obviously he will have to go for a heavier barrel.

Someone had and sold one in the classifieds within the last couple years. Iirc it was bought by someone here in AK. Hopefully one of the owners will see this and weigh in.

I haven’t done it, but that would be an interesting setup! I have an 84L Montana that I’ve thought would make a nice 35 Whelen someday. A 9.3x62 would be great as well.

I sold one here a few years ago. It did go to AK. It weighted in at 5lb 13oz with the leupold 2.5x ultralight scope. Kicked pretty good but was fine off hand, off the bench it sucked. It was awesome to carry for black bear. Never got a chance to shoot one with it though. Have a new one in the works on a defiance crf action. “9.3x62 84L Rebarreled by pacnor with a stainless super match. Contour copies the Montana contour to the end of the stock and then tapers to .620 at the muzzle finishing at 21”. 12 twist. Has titanium tactical bolt knob”

I have wanted to do a 9.3x62 on my 84L Classic Select 30-06. Just to many other wants getting in the way.

I've thought about it. Be a hell of a LW thumper.
But damn, its gotta be a handful.

Tempted to do it with my old Kimber of Oregon 89BGR... Fairly light contour for it though.

With full up loads I found my M77 African in 9.3x62 to be more thump then I enjoyed, I can only imagine that a sub-6lb Kimber so chambered would be intensely un-fun to shoot.

My Steyr-Mannlicher in 9.3x62mm is tolerable with heavy loads. I would imagine a Kimber lightweight would definitely get your attention on the bench

So, the 9.3x62 has a bit of recoil... How about on something heavier, maybe a Howa? Old Mark-X? I sooo don't need one, but, I have brass and dies... LOL

The CZ 550 I had was a puzzy cat to shoot off the bench. Now in a 6 pound rifle, it's going to be a thumper.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

You can put a 35 caliber hole in an 84L and still have enough wall thickness. JES has done it before. It helps if you cut it back to 19-20”.

I would just go with a new Winchester Model 70. I’d love to have an EW at some point.
