I had JES punch my 84m out to .358win. At worst, you may have to shorten the barrel down a little. My 22" .358 was fine though.
Mine is under 6 with glass. Recoil isn't bad even off a bench. You know you fired a rifle. But it wasn't nearly what I expected. The Montana stock design really seems to mitigate recoil well for me. A few guys have had 84Ls punched out ton35 Whelen which is more comparable to the 9.3x62. They reported the same about recoil...I was leary till I talked to them about it. I imagined a sub 6 pounder would be too much to handle.

I'm working on building one of these right now.

Pretty much a copy of Wrangler13's 9.3 on the Kimber action.

21" barrel, carbon kevlar stock, titanium bolt handle, and either a 2.5 ultra light or a 1-4 leupold.

I may end up going with a switch barrel option allowing for .30-06 and 9.3x62 barrels on the same action.

Yes, plugging Hodgdons top load for the 9.3x62 with 286gr pills and the top load for 300 WM with 200gr pills into JMB for a 6lb rifle, you're looking at 53 ft-lb vs 50 ft-lb recoil respectively. That's pretty vicious, a heavier rifle would help some, but you can't get away from the fact that recoil is the conservation of momentum, and bullet mass is a much weightier..... factor in that calculation than in KE.

If course you could load the 9.3 down with lighter bullets or lower velocities, but that's true of any cartridge, and in this case you're just kind of trending back down towards an expensive to shoot .30-06 with a much worse trajectory. Those were my thoughts anyway, when I stopped playing with the 35 Whelen and 9.3. If I were going to play with fat bullet .30-06s again, I do believe It'd be the .338-06, for all the excellent bullet options.

A 338-06 shooting 200-225 grain bullets on an 84l......cool.

A 9.3x62 Mauser shooting my 300 or 286 grain swift A-frame over 64 grains of 2000mr load on a 6 lb rifle.....that sounds like pure stupidity.

7 lbs is the sweet spot on the ole nine three.
