A handful of years ago you couldn't go 20 threads in the classifieds and not find a gloss leupold either vintage or vx-ii for sale. Not they are as rare as Democrats who love Trump. Seriously though why are these not for sale any more? I wanted one for a 338 WM m77 with blued steel and wood stock but settled for a newer redfield in matte.

Just curious.

Could you please reference one of the other 300 threads about this? JK, good luck.

Does Leupold still have their custom shop running? If so I wonder if you could get a gloss finish that way?

They’ve all been corralled by raccoons, and other critters who dote on shiny objects. I have one left, a Vari-X2 3-9 that’s been resting happily on my Hornet since 2001.

Looking at fixed 12x AO gloss......newer shorter tube versions, seem silly priced . May end up going w a newer matte Mark AR Mod 1 4-12x

I much prefer the matte finish, but there are some rifles that need a gloss, like my Browning 1885 223 that has a leupold 4-12 gloss on top. I sure do wish Leupold made some gloss scopes.

Lewdogg21: I do NOT know the answer to your question but I do know that shooters/Hunters ARE, of recent, actively seeking "gloss Leupolds" out for their needs/collector/trading goals.
About a month and a half ago I decided to sell off a bunch (24!) of scopes I have been hoarding and many that I had just bought from an estate.
Most were Leupolds but I had singles of Zeiss, Nikon, Burris and Redfield.
I have sold 18 of them to date mostly at gunshows and in addition sold a "gloss" Leupold 12 power for a friend. I should have bought that one for myself.
The gloss Leupolds I had extra went first and after they were gone folks kept asking me if I had any gloss finish Leupolds.
I have a TON of gloss finished Leupolds on my Varmint and big game Rifles but I am not adverse to putting a matte finish (or even a silver finish) scope on a blued or stainless Rifle.
Again "I" have no idea why Leupold quit offering their scopes in gloss on a routine availability basis - I think you can still get gloss finished scopes from their "custom shop" if you pay extra?

Yeah, I don't need one but it would sure complete the look of my 338 before I sight it in. Thanks for the info.

You don't see them because few people want them... Leupold's black matte finish looks great on blued rifles and reduces the glare in the field... the matte finish wear and last longer too... less demand = less production = less resale.
