I have posted my woes before. I purchased a Rem 722 in 257 Roberts. A round would not feed from mag. I could feed rounds by hand, but bolt would not close on the chambered round. Smith replaced the barrel, spaced it and it will now close on a round and shoot...darn well too. However, rounds STILL will not feed into chamber from the mag. They bind. Smith has closed shop but suggested that I try different followers and springs. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated. I have enough money in this rifle now to have bought any new rifle chambered in a Bob....call me stupid or hard headed, but I love the old ones. Thanks again.

I'm a fan of the 722. My deer and elk rifle is a 722 chambered in 300 Savage. My predator rifle is a 722 chambered in 222.
Regarding the feeding issue, I don't have an answer, but I wonder if the bolt is not the original?

Sometimes moving the magazine spring forward or backward a bit can help feeding.

My 30-06 700 will haystck if the cartridges are not all the way back . The legendary Mauser FN won't feed single round, it needs a box full . . Make up some dummy cartridges and watch slowly. I was able to get a P-17 to feed by doing that and very light touches with a Dremel. . Isn't the 722 like the 700, relying on bent sheet metal for feeding ? It wasn't until Savage, another bent sheet metal , did center line feed did their action feed reliably . Sorry for not having a true answer, just some thoughts. Good luck..

Perhaps a long shot, but check that the magazine box is not binding against the action when the action screws are tightened. The 722 has three action screws and if the magazine box is too deep, perhaps resulting from a dry 60 year old stock, the magazine lips can deform as the screws are heavily torqued. The center action screw serves only to snug the thin bottom metal against the stock and shouldn't require much torque to do so.
I encountered a similar issue with a M660 with new stock and custom steel bottom metal that wouldn't feed .308. The lips of the magazine had curled inward as the screws were tightened, and the forward recess in the magazine box sat too high relative to the feed ramp.
As a check, with the follower and spring removed, you should be able to reach into the magazine well and move the magazine box slightly even with the screws tight. Also, look at the forward rim of the magazine box to ensure that it doesn't protrude above the lower surface of the feed ramp on your action.

722 that won't feed. Own/owned 30+ never had that problem.
Tbone probably has it. If you can try another box do.
Not chambering (factory ammo ?) indicates guns has been messed with, so who knows.
When you push bolt fwd what EXACTLY happens ? "bind" is unclear.
