Hey Guys,

Ive inquired about this rifle's value in the past on this very forum but I personally acquired it tonight via a 3 way trade. There are lots of pics in the links attached...ive been as detailed as possible as I don't want any surprises for either party in this sale. Ive not sold anything of this age or with this amount of collector appeal here.

Here is what Ive got. Its an early (1937 i think) model 70 in 30GOVT06 (30-06) serial no. 7507. The gun is original and from what I can tell (pretty confident here) has never been refinished. Its in pretty good shape considering its age and is ready to use as it sits. There are no visible cracks or modifications to the stock. The original finish shows checking due to age and the bluing on the steel its self shows handling wear and patina. No rust. There are no pits or gouges on the exterior steel and the gun feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. The bore however does show significant pitting (see pics of my bore scope shot). It seems to shoot well however as the previous owner (honest guy and friend of mine) included a target shot with 150gr deer season XP factory ammo (target attached).

Modifications I've noticed...rear bridge drilled and tapped for scope mount (red field period correct mount included) and bolt handle machined for scope clearance (see pics). The factory rear sight is also missing and a solid steel dovetail plug is in its place. This work was done well imho but look at the pics and judge for yourself.

All and all its a great old gun and 100% functional as it sits. A great candidate for a refurb or simply to enjoy as is. Im not looking to make a mint on this...thinking $1099 plus free shipping...insurance up to the buyer).

PM me for any additional details or my phone number if you want more pics or simply want more info. Preferred payment via PP or personal check (shipping upon cleared chk).

Shipping will be from a private individual so make sure your FFL is ok with that...packaged as securely as possible with an insurance option up to the buyer. If I'm off base here on the price let me know...ive done a ton of research on this and I think this is priced to move pretty quickly while not joining in on the price gouging that is currently the norm.

pics are in the links...

I’m located in mackinaw city mi if anyone would like to do a face to face sale

Nice rifle for it's age. Unfortunately it has been drilled and tapped for a scope mount and the bolt handle has been ground for scope clearance. It should bring your asking price though..

Great user. I have one of similar vintage. Shoots 150gr Interlock into tight little groups.

Cool rifle. Great price for such an awesome piece of history. Safe queens are neat but imagine the stories this rifle could tell. So many cool adventures and game I’m sure.

If one wants it to use rather than just store away, the scope holes shouldn't be a deterrent at that price.

I have a neighbor and hunting partner here in NM who has shot many elk, mule deer and caribou, and had never felt any desire for a caliber beyond the 30-06.

It’s a nice gun but not without its flaws. I’d like to end up a happy seller with a happy buyer but I can’t take bath on it

Bumped back to the top. If I were in need of a hunting rifle this is what I'd be looking for.

I'd concur regarding the $800. - $900. price especially with the Bubbasmithed bolt alteration, one of the worst jobs I've seen appears to have been done with a die grinder. I wouldn't call it machined, it would be hard to make it look presentable.

Price reduced...let’s go $999
if that’s more the reality. Next move is to gunbroker.

I'm guessing he, like most, wasn't looking for the commentary...

Thanks for the info. If I were to keep this I’d redo it as the collector value has been compromised already. A blue job and a stock refinish and a touch up on the bolt handle would get this old war horse ready to rumble...and man is it a beautiful gun.

Hell it’s great as is

Indeed but in this case I really don’t mind...to be expected with a gun like this I suppose.

In really do like this rifle. If I didn’t have a garand in route I have to pay for I’d be keeping it lol

so the rifle was bubbaed a bit, still a beautiful piece of history, that I am sure is a fine shooter, what do you get for a grand these days, hell a new browning plastic stainless xbolt is over a grand.....and for all that say this isnt a collector, it is not a show piece for a musuem however a collector is something that appreciates, and if you think you will buy this same specimen in ten years for $1000 you are sadly mistaken. Hell the same rifle ten years ago could have been bought for $650-700 shipped and I believe this rifle on gunbroker in a penny start no reserve auctiion with it being pre war would bring $1200-1300....

guns to me are like legal crack
