Used to love crappie fishing!

Had a fishing buddy I'd go with often. Lived out at Brady Lake, and the crappie were thick out there. And we knew how to run an ultra light rig with jigs and Roadrunners, too!

Guys fishing with minnows in the same spots used to get really frustrated watching us pull in a limit of crappie when they weren't catching boo... grin

If someone knows how to crappie fish, it's a fun time.

Up here it's steelhead time. Got 1 line in already this morning and am waiting for a couple of buddies to show up and join me.

I wish we had a good crappie lake or 2 around here. I miss catching and eating them.

Yessir...my favorite technique is slip-float rigging with 1" tubes. They are in 4-6' of water staging to spawn on T-Bend now. I've found that light line is the key. 4# test will outfish 10# test ten to one.

Caught a big ole black crappie at the Cumberland city steam plant probably 13 14 yrs ago.
Kinda unexpected, was bottom fishing for blues .
Hit the glob of chicken liver when I was reeling in to check my bait.
Gave it to a old black guy down the bank watching me reel it in.
He said it was the biggest one he had ever seen.

Lots of people fish for crappie around here on lake barkley and kentucky lake.

I’m fixing to head out after them in a few minutes. They aren’t hot and heavy yet but we’re getting enough to make it worth the time.

We have had some cool nights but I am going out to see what they are up to today. Gotta check the trail cams anyway.

Fluorocarbon is pretty good, not as stiff as it used to be. I like 8 pound test so I can bend the jig hook and get my jig back.

I use Sufix 832 braid... it's the diameter of 4lb mono and very strong. It casts well with no wind knots unlike Fireline and holds well with the Palomar knot. It will abrade if you are fishing jigs on the bottom in a rocky area.
Used it yesterday afternoon walleye fishing.

Cool picture, I haven't caught more than two a trip yet. Funky weather down here in North Texas.
