Going under the knife after seven weeks of bed rest and fighting the insurance company (I won.)
Anybody on the far side of this? Care to share your experience?

I have had the pleasure of 3 of those plus a laminectomy. The surgeries were not hear as bad as the pain I had before the surgery. The main problem I had is after about a month or two, you forget you have back disease, and you feel better. This is a good thing if you can remember you're not 18 again and bullet proof just because the pain is gone. It is hard to keep from doing stuff you're not supposed to do. You don't totally heal until about a year after the surgery. By then your body has done all the healing it is going to, but you still aren't "cured", you still need to do things different.....from now on!

Had the L4//L5 disc removed in 1999 (crushed it in a fall down a mountain slope while elk hunting). Immediate pain relief for me. Did some therapy for a few weeks and mobility was good, no cane or brace needed. I was 45 years old. A little over a year later I moved wrong reaching across the desk and felt it shift. Could barely walk the next day. Local chiropractor had a stretching table, told be my spacing where the disk was removed had collapsed and pinched the nerves. He fixed me and I have learned that if I go in for a stretch every 4 to 5 weeks I don't have any problems.

Fusion, S1-L5. Then rods and screw hardware and fusion,L5,L4. L3 now need L3/L2 fixed .Putting it off as long as I can
If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles

Best thing I ever did. Should have had it done earlier. Follow the doctor's recovery and exercise orders precisely. Which means walk alot. I am 15 years post surgery and still in good shape.

Discectomy/laminectomy after rupturing the L4/5 disc. Surgery was in 2002.
Surgery was instant reduction in pain from 9+ down to 1 or 2.
Still have episodes of pain from over doing it, or sometimes just moving the wrong way. These episodes can last from a few days, to a few months.
