while checking out the pawn shops I found a 700 classic chambered in 22 hornet for $600. It has good blueing and mild handling marks.
I have no need for this gun but damn it feels good in my hands. Is this a decent deal?

If you like it, drop $400 in front of him and see what he says. Not a check.....cash.
Cash is king in pawn shops. He probably got it for $200, or less.

Hello All Mud bogger A year ago I bought and sold a Classic in 375 for $450 there didn't seem to be a large demand for Classics at the gun shows I attend. nelson

Must be a model other than the 700 or a different cartridge?

The only 22 Hornet Remington has ever made (as far as I know),is the ugly ass one they are making on the little Russian Mauser action.Don't remember the model number off hand.
If you want a $400 Hornet, get a CZ 527.Trust me on this one (confirmed Hornet/K-Hornet/Bee nut).

I have never heard of a 700 chambered for any rimmed cartridge. This makes sense as the bolt design doen't allow headspacing on the rim. The 788 which was chambered for the 30/30 and 44 mag used a different style bolt than the standard (rimless) chamberings. GD

If the Classic Swift is on a short action(almost sure it is) your not going to like the way the gun feeds with more then 2 rounds in the magazine. Those semi-rimmed cases. Pete

Yes it is on a short action. What is the feeding issue?

Yes it is on a short action. What is the feeding issue? The mag box gets short because you can't stack those semi-rimmed cases in on top of each other like a non-rimmed.

The Remington Classic in .220 Swift was produced in 1992. I have one that I mostly shoot paper with. I bought it just because I had never owned a Swift. Every once in a while I take it out of the safe and put a box or so of loads through it. I also use the rifle for testing scopes since it is quite accurate.
After reading so much on the Campfire about taking deer with .223's I have been having the urge to try it on a deer. It is very accurate with 70 grain speers at around 3400 fps.
