So if you had a Montana 1999 action, with short magnum bolt face size and the stock what caliber barrel would you attach to the action?

Another vote for the 7 WSM.

I’m building a 6.5PRC on my Montana 1999 SS WSM action. I was lucky enough to procure a lightweight MPI stock that fits the Bill perfectly. I’m using a #3 Hart 1-8” Twist factory flutted.

I'd second the 6.5 PRC, although the OP did not state what the intended use was.

Not really a specific hunt in mind for it, i am kinda chasing the rabbit down the rabbit hole now, leaning toward a 358 wsm if i can find a barrel. i have some other 358's at least i would have similar bullet around to reload.

9.3 BS would be in the running for me. It's a 350 Rem Mag necked to 9.3. First bullet I'd try would be the 250gr Accubond.
