I have been conversing with a gentlemen that is interested in selling a T/C Renegade .58 cal percussion sidelock. I have seen a few photos and but have not made the trip to handle it - yet. The owner states that it came from the Custom Shop, however, the photos I have been provided do not show any "Custom Shop" markings. I am aware of both .50 and .54 cal Renegades. At least from the photos I have viewed, the rifle looks very clean and has nice figuring on the stock.

Does the fact that it's a .58 cal make it a Custom Shop product or are there other identifying features?

Any one know the factory .58 cal rate of twist?

Finally, I know this kind of a loaded question, but what would you value such a rifle if it's indeed in very good condition?

Thanks and be well. DJB

Check out T/C Big Boar, that sounds like what is being described.

Yes, I've had a couple TC Big Boar 58 cal caplocks. They're kind of a carbine with the shorter barrel. Great rifle fore BP Elk season, but quite hard to find these days.

The one in question is labeled .58 cal Renegade with full scrolled trigger guard and double trigger configuration. I just wasn't aware T/C Custom Shop offered a .58 Renegade option. Thanks. Dave

The .54, .56., and .58 barrels are all 1ā€ and interchangeable. Barrels should all be marked as to whatever model gun they began as. This is one of the compelling things about the TC sidelocks. I keep buying them, setting them up with nice sights, then selling them. Someday Iā€™m gonna keep one!

Back before TC burned down, they sold rifles and barrels through the "custom shop". Really just their factory catalog.
They did have better wood on most, but the guy could have just got a replacement barrel.
I would personally not be too excited about it. I don't know the rate of twist, likely 1/48 or deeper cut 1/60. Could also be a smooth bore. So you just have to put in a tight patch and measure the rod spin/distance and do the math. I would hope for a 1/60 myself. Of course a turkey hunter may want the smooth bore for shot.

I have two from the custom shop. One percussion and one flint. It's been so long I can't remember what year I bought them. I think you could get 45,50,54, and 58.
