Been looking for a dedicated turkey gun, might even go with the package and get a waterfowl barrel too. I am looking at catalogs, the 535 and the 835 seem to have the same features (one uses the Accuchokes and the other the Accumag chokes); is that the only difference? Durability? Thanks, Odessa

Don't keep up on the Mossberg's all that much, but isn't the 535 just a heavy barrel Model 500 with 3" inch chamber? The 835 is the 3 1/2" model for the longest .12 gauge loading.

Looking at the website the 535 is lighter. The 835 was the first to build a 3 1/2" gun and I think they built the gun around a 10 guage barrel. This made for a heavy gun that did not point well for me. This is just a guess, but since other manufacturer's have built thier 3 1/2" guns with lighter barrels, This may be their was to make a lighter 3 1/2" gun. Like I said I'm just guessing.

I believe the difference between the two is the 835 is overbored and the barrel is ported to reduce recoil shooting the 3 1/2 in shells. The 535 also shoots 3 1/2 in shells, but is not overbored and ported, resulting in much more felt recoil.

Thanks Gentlemen; I bought a 535-ATS combo package last night at Dick's Sporting Goods in Fayetteville NC. $359.00 plus tax for the camo model with two barrels, one a 22" turkey barrel with an XX Full tube, fiber-optic sights, a TruGlo red dot sight with Weaver mount, and a 28" waterfowl barrel with three Accuchokes. I really don't know the true difference other than the 535's forearm is shaped more like that of the Remington 870 at least to me it does....but I don't think that the 535 shoots 3 1/2 inch loads like the 835...they make a 935 autoloading shotgun that shoots the long shell too... as for weapon of choice for turkey's....I would go with the 835....it's just a jam up gun that get the job done...almost bought one this past year but decided that my 870 3 inch was getting the job done good enough... but yea I would go with the 835 that way if you decide to shoot a 3 1/2 inch load you will have a gun that will do it... although you really don't need it for turkey...my 3inch will outshoot my dad's 3 1/2 anytime....but it's all in the choke and load also...

the 535 is essentially a Mossberg 500 with a 3 1/2 in chamber. The difference between the 835 and 535 is that the 835 is overbored and ported and the 535 is not. The 835 barrel needs the accu-mag choke tubes where as the 535 barrel needs the accu-choke tubes.

hunterdeneugene; in my checking around I discovered that what you state is right - the 535 is a re-engineered 500 that will take the 3 1/2" shell. I will stick with 3" in Turkey and Goose loads, but wanted the capability to shoot 3 1/2" if I decide to. I didn't need the extra size of the 835 or having to get new tubes for it (my collection of Winchoke and Winchoke treaded aftermarket steel shot tubes from my old 1300 will work in the 535 but not in the 835). The 535 ended up being the best choice for me. Thanks again, Odessa
