I would be leery of how they're constructed. Rabbeted joints aren't great (long grain-to-end grain glue joints), and with the bottom glued firmly to the vertical pieces there's no way for it to move as it shrinks and contracts with the change in seasons - cracking is the result (especially so since it's made of pine). Definitely coat it inside and out with a good sealant/finish to ameliorate that as much as possible. That'll help keep the lid flat too, to minimize warping/binding.
