I changed barrel on a Savage 110 7mmRM. It now has an X-Caliber 1:9 25", threaded for suppressor use.
I have 200 162AMaxes that I got a a gift, and was thinking about giving them a whirl. If used for hunting, it will be WT, hogs or Nilgai (though may use 160gr Partitions for the Nilgai)
Previsouly I loaded 160gr SGK and NPTs with RL22 and about 2900fps, with RL22 and Rem 9 1/2s, which means that is what I have most (~4lbs). I also have 7828SC (8lb jug) and some left over IMR4831 and 1lb of AA4350. So my question.
For start loading 162gr AMax with RL22 and 9 1/2M Which would be a good starting place? and what to expect? Or should I try some of the other powders?
Thanks

Sponxx I have always gotten a little better accuracy out of 7828 in the 7’s I have worked with. Right now I’m using 160 Accubonds with that powder. GreggH

I've had really good luck with Reloader-22 in my 7mags.With 160gr bullets my load is 66.0grs.AA4350 will work well, but I really think it's better for 150gr bullets or less.I went up to 63.5grs with A4350 for 3044fps with an excellent group, but one of those loads ran 3070fps and I got a sticky bolt lift so I wouldn't go higher than 62.5grs.

Seems like I should be able to find something decent along 64-66gr of RL22 and (as my previous load). Will explore 7828, and see what happens with accuracy when I hit 3000fps with either powder.

I have found 7828 to be a good powder, just haven't used too much of it.I had to use one grain more 7828 than I did Reloader 22 to get about the same velocity.

Speaking of Reloader-26,this was one of my test loads with a 160gr Accubond with 67.5gr of Reloader-26 out of my Remington 700 Stainless Steel Long Range.Velocity was 3065fps.

I have used R22 for 25 years or so. It's always been accurate for me with the 175's. Just don't do your range workup when it's 90 degrees in the summertime. Same load that's ok in the 60's will be too hot in the 90's. It will fool you. I dabbled with the 160 NP at first with IMR 4831 and it was just fine but the 175's had a higher BC and could equal the velocity of the 160's with most published load data. So that's something to consider. Accuracy was better with the 175's too. https://load-data.nosler.com/load-data/7mm-remington-magnum/The new Hornady 175 and 180 ELD bullets have ridiculous high BC's. Going to give them a try when I can get my hands on some.

That's an awesome group. Is it repeating well for you? Bought 3 cans of R26 to try out last year. Wondering if that will be the replacement for R22 or if R23 or R25 is the better alternative for availability.

I shot two different groups with that load and it was repeatable.I like the 150gr Ballistic Tip in my 7mags.I usually save my 160gr Accubonds for my 7STW.I was looking the other day and Nosler is now showing a 160gr Ballistic Tip,but I don't think they are on the market yet.It should be a really good bullet. https://www.nosler.com/ballistic-tip-bullet

Isn't RE-26 making 3000+ fps with the 150's in the 270 Win in a 22 or 24" barrel?

That's a badasss combo right there, and very few things you couldn't kill with it. I've killed well over 50 head of African game with the 7mm/160 AB combo running about that same velocity. I haven't tried RL26 in it yet, as RL22 and Retumbo got me there too. Nice shootin'!
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.
