Ok guys I'm thinking of getting into some muzzleloader hunting this year and want to buy my first rifle.
I've looked around and for under $400 I can get a new CVA Wolf SS .50cal with scope & mount. Lightweight and 24" barrel for the heavily brush that I will be hunting in. I've watch a few YouTube videos and read articles and it appears to be a good muzzleloader for the money.

Question: anyone here own one and how do you like it?

Thanks
Mark

I remember when those were about $88 last year at walmart

But walmart sucks

For a beginner muzzleloader it will do just fine for you. Probably not much different than their optima models which I used to shoot 15 years ago.

Im smokeless now, thanks to Savage.

Yeah I would probably try out the inline using 270grn platinum, 209 primer & whitehot pellets. The brush I hunt in gives about 50yd targets or less.

I have one and it is VERY accurate. I have no issue recommending one.

I've got two of them. Picked them up at a garage sale for fifty bucks.

Between the wife and I we've taken 7 or 8 deer with them now. They do the trick for us.

I even use the much hated power belts. They came with a bunch of them when I bought the rifles.

Might be the best $50 I ever spent. I had never used a muzzleloader before. But have enjoyed the seasons allot the last few years.

Why are the power belts much hated?

Where do you order the plug?

My youngest daughter has taken two cow elk with her CVA Wolf. Plenty accurate for the pesos.

What bullet, primer & powder set-up does she use?

209 primer, 2 pellets of Triple 7 Magnum, 250-295 gr. Powerbelts. IIRC, her shot last hunt was 137 yards.

I wouldn’t use pellets. They’re gay

Measure your loose charges, pellets get crumbly, and nimrods can put them in upside down.

Powerbelt. Holy fugk. Lol.

Am I still on TnDeer.??

They've accounted for lotsa elk over the years in our group. Barnes work well but can be a bit tight on the 2nd and 3rd shot depending on the barrel.

Your group undoubtedly knows what works for you.

I do recall a lot of lament with lighter weight powerbelts on whitetails. Seemed like everytime someone put up a “Anyone got a tracking dog” thread on TnDeer.com, the root of the situation seemingly almost always came back to the powerbelt. The little green skirt weight.

Some guys that used the real heavy ones had no problems. Except for the rainbow trajectory.

You should buy the CVA Apex I will be listing later. For $500 you will get a50 cal.Muzzle loader with a 3-9-40 Leopold scope and a 7 mm 08 barrel. Only reason for sale is I'm terminally ill and getting rid of things to help out the wife.

The CVA Wolf is a fabulous muzzleloader for the money.

The Powerbelts are iffy on expansion, but load easy, are accurate, and will reliably kill deer if you do your part. 777pellets are the stuff, but the do leave a crusty ring in the bore. The good thing is it can easily be cleaned out with water and a patch.

Jenkins, sorry to hear about your health, I didn't see your post until I got back from buying the CVA Wolf. Thanks for responding.
