Bought a batch of Savage catalogs on auction for $4. All from 2002-2008. Whoopie, right? I skipped over them first time. But second time I saw a 1917 Lewis machineguns ad in the pile. Then on really close look, one of the envelopes was labelled "Chicopee Falls". I decided it's worth a few bucks to see what might be in there. Didn't think I'd win it for $4.. but that was fine, the machinegun ad was worth that. Got it home and it had the machinegun ad, it had a 1967 letter to a dealer introducing the Anschutz 54 in a Westfield envelope. It had an immaculate 1931 catalog plus pricelist... and it had this. I've never seen one of these before. It's a October'ish 1921 flyer to retail stores urging them to purchase the new Combination Kit for display and sales. Measures 18" x 18". The pictured ad and another ad describing the new "SAVAGE 300" as a great achievement are the first 2 99 ads I've ever found published in any magazines.. Condition issues along the top, obviously, but price was right! Best $4 I spent recently..

Nice find. $4 can get you something these days... A cup of coffee at a convenience store plus a bit of change in return.

18"x18"...don't think I have seen that one before. That's an odd size.

It's delicate paper, some of that of course might be due to the fact it's 100 years old.. but as a retail flyer to a sporting goods store that wasn't intended for display, I doubt many of these survived. It's not anything that's of use to a retail store for more than a month or two. Heck, they may not have printed many.. they were cash poor in 1921.
I find it odd they didn't include the prices on it. They would have had to send out a pricelist or prices at some point in 1921 for the new 99's and the combo kit. But my pricelists go from summer of 1921 with 1899's listed in 30-30, 303, 22HP and 250-3000 then to Jan, 1922 with all the 99's and the 300 Savage.
Maybe they sent the flyer before they'd finalized a price on the 99G in 300? * The price of a 250-3000 in summer of 1921 was $60, cost of 410 barrel $12 * The price of a 99G in Jan. 1922 was $51, cost of 410 barrel was $10 (combo kit cost was $61)

Good that a date is actually printed on it.
Is Oct. 1921 near the beginning of the Model 1899 to Model 99 change?

Is Oct. 1921 near the beginning of the Model 1899 to Model 99 change? The first ad for the 300 Savage seems to have come out in late August or September of 1921. The combo kit ads shown on this flyer came out late September thru October. So yes.. it's very close from what we can tell.

No room for ads in the pocket reference which hopefully I'll get out in the next couple of months. But I've gathered quite a few ads that I'd like to fit in the larger book I do after that.
