Hello all and thanks so much for looking!
A friend has a High Standard Victor that I have been considering purchasing at a price that is quite fair. The pistol has seen very little use, but the guy insisted on keeping it in this goofy hand made Kydex-like holster and it has removed a lot of the finish, like 20% plus. If I buy, will it harm the value to have it coated in Nitride or the like?
Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance No, they're not that hard to find. Most for sale have a fair amount of finish wear since they were bullseye guns and not safe queens. I see them for $600 to $700 in really nice condition and that's at a shop, I'm sure that's a bit higher than from an individual.....if not, pass.

I’m considering one in like-new condition for $750, and I think that is a fair price, but not a particularly good deal. Given the wear alone, I wouldn’t want to have more than $500 in it. The refinish job/coating will not increase its value a bit.

To have low round and dependable Vicktor at a beater price would be a pure joy to me. Use it & not worry about show finish or resale value.
Two target grade Hi Standards I've had were damn good shooters.
What's the money on it, in case you pass?

About $750 - $800; about same value as the Victor. They are nice pistols.

Real value is somewhat dependent on whether or not it's a Hamden gun or a Houston gun; as I recall, Victors were made at some time or another in both locations, with any Hamden HS being the more desirable & higher valued..
And condition does matter unless it doesn't matter to you.
Pretty hard to find a Hamden gun of any version in pristine or mint condition for much under a grand.
Visibly used examples are usually in the 750+ range.

The Hamden made guns are a bit more desirable than E. Hartford guns as well.

All I ever heard about was magazine issues. I always wanted one but those issues kept me from owning one . Hasbeen

The High Standards don’t have a “feed ramp”. “Funnelling” the cartridge into the chamber is solely reliant on the feed lips of the magazine. If you’ve got a “good” magazine, with properly adjusted lips, they work great. If you’ve got a “poorly” adjusted mag, or a low quality aftermarket, then they can be a real unreliable SOB.
