I'm considering rebarreling one of my 223 rifles to 350 legend for Midwest whitetails (primarily Ohio). I'm wondering about a barrel diameter though. Midway lists the compatible bullets as .335, but Winchester's site lists their loaded ammo as .357.

If starting from scratch and ordering a barrel, would you go .355, .358, or something else?

FWIW this is not the first time I've considered this. It doesn't seem like the bullet makers are in any hurry to come out with compatible bullets in .355 for the 350 other than Winchester and a couple potential offerings from Hornady, and all of the .358 bullets are either pistol type bullets or too heavy to be practical for the 350.

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

The 350 Legend is on the list here. I hope it helps.

Winchester doesn't know their ass from apple butter. That was the whole problem with their hyped introduction. Everything was correct except for the facts.
All of the Winchester bullets are .355. The cartridge was always designed with .355 bullets but falsely advertised as .357.

Check out Maker bullets. They make 350 Legend all copper .356 bullets that work great in it, and are way better than Winchester.

Bore should be .355.

I would go with a 357AR instead. It uses .358 dia bullets. I would cast my own.
357AR
You can convert 223 brass or buy 223 Basic brass from Starline.

I don't have any experience with this round, but I did experiment with a .358 Win with a 200gr cast bullets at about 1800 fps....which is comparable to what a 357AR will do.
(I cull deer here in Ohio with an ODNR permit.) I took 6 or 7 deer with this combo and it worked well.

I wonder why Winchester didn't go with the 357 AR then? Is it not legal in all states? Maybe some little something that disqualifies it in one state?
Or did Winchester want their name on something unique?

State laws vary a good bit. Some list cartridge specs and anything you can cobble together within those is okay. Others have lists of specific cartridges they allow. Gotta know before you go. The law here is pretty clear: any centerfire round, no .25 or smaller rimfires. I can work with that!

If your rifle is a Savage, I have a 350 Legend barrel available...

I picked it up for the action, and am waiting on a 17 Fireball barrel...

I almost went with the legend. Till I saw .355" bullets.....not much for hunting bullets in that diameter yet. Sure some will work. And if it sticks around more will be made.

I wasn't crazy about the 450 Bushmaster and .452" either. But did more research and there are good bullets made for it...

Thats what I went with. Can load it stiff or mild. Heavy or light. I think it'll be a great deep thumper.

Guys also argue with me ...but via the 20-21 Ohio rule book, straight walls must be .357+ diameter. I look for that to be changed so the 350 is clearly legal....

Ohio and Iowa have already named the 350 as allowed.

Barnes will soon be making a bullet. Maker already does make a solid copper hollow point. Amazingly accurate with exceptional field performance.
